I will be discontinuing this thread ( not exactly a rocking thread anyway ) but i've decided to make a real effort to stop mug punting , there is so much money to be made match betting and i continue to mug punt needlessly . I enjoy the thrill of betting and this is about the third time i've tried to give up mug betting but i've failed each time , hopefully this time will be successful .

Its crazy to think i remember placing my first bet in ladbrokes at 17 i stuck my 100 quid on liverpool to beat united at 3/1 and it lost , i still remember feeling sick about it cause i couldnt go out that week , since then i have mug punted and it has gradually got more and more .

Over the last year i have start betting up to 2k on a mug punt , as profits grew so did losses , and although i was winning more than i was losing , losing 1-2k a night on a football match is a head f*ck . Its the stress of it ,sitting watching a match gritting your teeth and getting frustrated with how sh*t liverpool are playing .

My week so far was , 1k on Sunderland , then 1k on Chelsea both lost , went for 1k on spurs tonight and 1k on Fulham ,i'm sitting here watching the spurs match and at half time both matches are losing ones and im utterly p*ssed off .so decided i can't keep going around in these circles .

Fortunately its not a story of how i lost everything ,i had an amazing January and i'm well well up in profit from mug betting , my problem is the more i was making the more i was betting , the more i was stressing .

I have to be honest im going to find it difficult to give up mugging altogether because i love the thrill of betting and watching a game but i can always underlay an arb and get the same thrill .

Well I always found your info interesting mate, it's what this site is about after all (well the tagline is 'why gamble when you can win', but still the emphasis is on gambling for fun). Would have been interesting to know if you would have made more from just mugging than arbing / match betting, don't suppose you can find that out though can you or maybe a rough guestimate?

Thanks mate , i'm looking forward to doing more match betting knowing i've a steady income coming in . I work for a livong so when your losing more in a night than you make in work in a week it messes with my head aswell .

I don't have exact figures , tbh you tend to try forget about the losses and remember the good times . I can say categorically that i have made more mugging than match betting , in january i on one particular weekend i made over 10k , it was a weekend Ronnie O Sullivan lost in the final , Athletico madrid beat sporting gijon and valencia beat villareal , i think that was all on the sunday , i then followed that up with a 2k on everton at home to city if i remember correctly and got another i remember the milan derby , inter were 1-0 up with a man sent off the were 1.90 on betfair , i stuck 2k on them , they then went 2-0 up and were 1.22 i stuck about 3k on them , that was the crazyness of the way i was betting . End of January saw me make over 22k in profit for january alone .

Losses - last year i wasnt betting as heavy only 300-500 a bet ,i remember losing 2k in a weekend but nothing major, if i lost that i would of forced myself into alot of sign-ups to make it back .

I can tell by looking at my float now that there is no way i could of made that much from match betting as im only doing it about 2 years .

Looking forward to the stress free life of the match bettor now , diaries on here have been very inspirational in my decision , tbh when you see people making 20-30k a year from match betting and its almost risk free then you gotta think long and hard about what your doing and the stress it causes you.

I kind of know what you mean Eoin (but for smaller stakes!). When I used to go to the casino a few years ago as a student, I'd play something like a fiver a hand on blackjack and be well happy to walk away fifty quid up. Or be happy when a quid acca won me twenty quid on a Saturday afternoon.

Last few years i've never been satisfied with small wins like that and my stakes have gone up and up and up. I never used to lose fortunes, but if went to the casino with my mates i'd be bust in about 5 minutes if i started badly! This ended very badly when I was drunk at some point last year (posted about it on here!).

Since then i've tried not to gamble anything more than about £100 quid on mug bets or going down the casino, and so far i've not been tempted to bet big. Makes it much more enjoyable rather than everything being a stress!
