England needing an improbable 391 to win were bowled out for 123
Australia an emphatic 267 run victory, led by a 6/47 by Ryan Harris
A stunning win by Australia after being 5/67 on the first day
It was a lively deck all game, did Strauss err in winning the toss and asking Australia to bat ?
4TH Test Melbourne preview
As far as I am concerned the outcome of this Test is in the curators hands
The pitch varries , but is usually a lower bouncing deck, and a fair cricket wicket
England have batted 5 times in this series
They have been bowled out cheaply 1st innings Brisbane, and twice in Perth on bowler friendly decks
They have made big scores on a 2nd innings flat Brisbane deck, and once on the very flat Adelaide Oval
Will the curator make it a result pitch ?
Australian curators have been known to be fair, and dont doctor the decks
But then again, Australia has been consitently beating allcomers at home for the last 20 years
There4 this deck might be prepared differently ?
Evolving bowling in Australian domestic to International cricket
A lot of domestic decks are prepared for results in the 4 day comp
Bowlers like Siddle, Hilfenhaus, Harris, Bollinger bowl very well because they get a lot of pitch assistance in most cities
However when they step up to predominantly flat International decks, it becomes harder for 2 reasons
A: harder to bowl on flat decks
B: bowling to superior batsman
Ryan Harris is the classic example, got flogged in Adelaide, became a lethal bowler in Perth
Australia successfully played 4 quicks on the bouncy Perth deck
Melbourne you need a spinner
That will weaken Australia if Michael Beer plays, or whatever other spinner is selected
Off spinner Nathan Hauritz, has a recent 6 wicket haul, and has also made back to back 100s with the bat, will he come up for selection ?
2 weeks ago Nathan had a much publicised garage sale and sold of his Australian cricket gear !
Series 1-1 all
FWIW Aussies winning has given this series a real oomph now
These markets compliments of Betstar
$ 2-45 Australia
$ 2-80 England
Both series and 4th Test betting are very similar
Im going to sit on the fence, wait and see the pitch conditions
