Have been absent from the forum for a while as not been MB, but as its Cheltenham time again thought it would be good to have a tipsters thread going. Should be a great week and i've got tickets for Thursday so hopefully can pick some winners!
Anyone that may remember me from previous tipster threads will know that I like a bit of value, so here we go with todays picks-
1.30 - Cinders and Ashes 10/1 (£5 e/w) Comes into the race off the back of 3 straight wins like many in the race, and a 1lb lighter than his win at Haydock in January. Should be fresh and his record of 3/4 wins over hurdles and 1 second place suggest he will be there or there abouts if he gets a clear run. The only doubt is whether the ground is soft enough? Have used my racing post app free bet to go £5 e/w.
2.05 - No bet This will be one to sit back and watch. Don't have an account with PP otherwise Al Ferof would be the choice with the promise of a refund if Sprinter Sacre wins. If Sprinter Sacre is as good as everyone thinks then he should hose this one.
2.40 - Billie Magern 33/1 (£2.50 e/w) Probably the most competitive race on the card today with many offering bits of form that makes picking a winner tricky. The key to this race is finding the horse with the stamina to see out the 3 miles. It seems fair to put a line through anyone that fell or was pulled up last time out. This still leaves 14 to pick from. Of the top three in the betting, Quantativeeasing boasts the most impressive form but the handicapper has raised him to top weight at 11-12 as a result, so he is ruled out as well. I believe the key to this race is looking for a horse with some experience. 2 horses that haven't already been ruled out and have both course and distance form are- Bille Magern (33/1) and Noland (20/1). Billie Magern gets my pick from the value perspective as he goes off the lighter weight of the two at 10-10. His last run saw him pick up a 3rd place around Cheltenham at 25/1, hoping for something similar (or better) today.
3.20 - Binocular 9/2 (£5 win) Can't be having Hurricane Fly at those odds, so the value in this race must be Binocular. Proven jumper, had a breathing op and comes into this one fresh. Used my free Ladbrokes £5 bet on this one, 5/1 available elsewhere.
4.00 - Fortification 25/1 (£2.50 e/w) Another difficult race with the Cross Country seeing Willie Mullins enter 2 horses to take on last years winner Sizing Australia. Looking further down the list one horse stands out to me as an e/w chance. Fortification won his pre-Cheltenham race with a good win at Warwick off 11-12. He seems to have evaded the handicapper for this one and Denis O'Regan saddles him up at just 10-6. His 25/1 price seems on the generous side.
4.40 - Dare To Doubt 50/1 (£1 e/w) The favourite Quevega seems nailed on this one, so potentially another one to sit back and enjoy. There are plenty in this race with chances of a place, most notably Swimcombe Flame and Shop DJ but 1/4 of the odds at 14/1 makes this a fairly unattractive bet for value seekers. The only other one of interest here is Dare To Doubt. Its not often that Willie Mullins has a 50/1 shot. The ground should suit, the main doubt seems to be whether he will get the trip.
5.15 - Ackertac 14/1 (£5 win) The 2 I like here are Triolo D'Alene (7/1) and Ackertac (14/1) who finished 1st and 2nd respectively in a recent run at Ascot. Trilo was 5lbs lighter than Ackertac that day, today Ackertac goes with first time blinkers and a 1lb lighter than Trilo. Add in the excellent Twiston-Davies Cheltenham form and i'm hoping for a reverse of the Ascot result.
Best of luck if you are having a bet today, please feel free to share your selections below (no long write up neccessary!).
