Does that mean they’ve improved?
This isn’t the Manchester City we’ve come to expect in the closed season. Spending has been limited to say the least, and doesn’t Mancini love telling everyone that’s the case. Months of winging about how the most expensively assembled squad in football history is too thin to compete and all he has to show for his attitude is the injury prone Jack Rodwell signed from Everton. The problem, as has been pointed out multiple times, is that the squad they have and the one Mancini picks from are different because of all the players they can’t shift off the books. Even where there are suitors for players such as Adabayor's potential move to Spurs, the contracts they’ve offered can’t match the current pay they receive. Regardless of this do City need to improve? They may have scraped to the league title by the thinnest margin of all time, but should’ve put it to bed weeks before. With an extra year of experience, dealing with the Champions League (which they’ll want to get to the knock out rounds of at least) and having key players like Tevez not going AWOL for months because of a ’misunderstanding’ means they’re still the team to beat.
Where will they finish this year – 1st
The rest haven’t done enough to take advantage of the slow dealings at City this summer. They will still destroy teams this season starting, in all likelihood, with poor promoted Southampton on the opening day.
Player worth watching
Not much in the way of new blood this season, so let’s look to the man that drove them through more games than we could count last year. We give you the monster that is Yaya Toure.

Not to be confused with his portly brother Koulo.
Who would they want back?
Seriously, you have to go back a long way to find anyone in their history that would make it into this team which makes finding something on YouTube difficult. So instead, ladies and gentlemen, football fans around the world, we give you Shaun Goater. Feed the goat and he will score. You’ve come a long way City, a long, long way.
