Does that mean they’ve improved?
They better have, if you bring in half a first eleven in the transfer window and don’t improve then you’ve got to think someone else should be in charge of the war chest after that. In fact running an eye over the ins and outs suggest Rangers have replaced like for like positionally with Championship quality going out to be replaced by Premier League quality, and for the most part with little upfront fees.
While last year’s investments were geared towards survival at all costs this window has seen a blend of experience and youth arrive with no small amount of quality. Park in particular seems a shrewd investment, bringing energy and solidity to midfield to balance the prospect of Hoilett who was one of the few stand out performers (in a positive way) in the dire Blackburn outfit that went down.
Hughes has a lot to prove this season, he kept QPR up but only on the last day of the season and at times even in that match they were dead if not buried. He will need the stomach for the fight because it won’t be all plain sailing. Whether he wants to keep Barton (starting the season with a Di Canio length ban for being a prize winning douche and then talking his way further into trouble) who almost did enough to send them down before his team mates bailed him out, remains to be seen. Doubt anyone would take him anyway, unless they’re looking for a professor of copy and paste philosophy somewhere.
Where will they finish this year – 14th
Its cost a lot, but they have a far better team than last year so there shouldn’t be any danger of a last game reprieve.
Player worth watching
A new goalkeeper is always a time for nervousness. No matter what they cost you never know how they’re going to bed in, how they’ll work with the defence in front of them and whether they’ll do Green and make some high profile howlers…

Who would they want back?
The goals of Sir Les would be welcomed with open arms, as would moments of magic like this Sinclair classic
