Wenger warns Arsenal over Wilshere

Arsene Wenger has warned Arsenal’s hierarchy of a new need to get a deal done for Jack Wilshere after genuine interest emerged from Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been keeping tabs on Wilshere, but the feeling was always that the 26-year-old England international would commit his future to Arsenal.

However, Wilshere has made it clear through his representatives that he is open offers – if Arsenal do not improve their current terms, which is thought to be below expectations thus far.

Arsenal’s rivals are hugely keen on Wilshere, given they could land him for nothing this summer, which means their contract offers could be substantial.

Wenger has now been made aware of the interest, and that is real and genuine – which he has now passed onto his hierarchy, who are very keen to tie Wilshere down to a new deal.

I understand Arsenal are now worried they could be drawn into an auction for his services. Wilshere has been a key figure for Arsenal since Christmas, and he believes he has more than showed his fitness to Wenger, and is hopeful he can now earn a contract befitting his squad status.

There is also the fact that Arsenal have handed out huge contracts to the likes of Mesut Ozil, Henrik Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January transfer window.

Wilshere’s form has also propelled him back into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the World Cup this summer.

As it stands Bookmakers are convinced that Wilshere will remain at The Emirates beyond this season and PaddyPower price him at 1/5 to remain with their nearest rivals being Liverpool at 7/2.

“Could Jurgen Klopp be plotting another Emirates raid? He’s already had Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and now he’s sniffing around Jack Wilshere,” said spokesman Paddy Power.

“He’s out of contract in the summer – so Liverpool could be set to bag a bargain.”
