We are back to one major event this week as the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational attracts a major standard field for third World Golf Championship event of 2018.
The event has just 75 entrants and is one of the most eagerly awaited played at the famed Firestone Country Club in Ohio – although this is the final year at the current venue with the tournament moving to Memphis in 2019.
See below as we run through tournaments for you including facts, odds and picks from our own golfing professional Cliff Jackson and Betfair.
WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP BRIDGESTONE INVITATIONAL
- Firestone Country Club, Ohio
- First staged in 1999
- Current champion is Hideki Matsuyama
FIELD: A quality field, brimming with all the best players on the planet, which is little surprise. Japanese superstar Hideki Matsuyama defends the title he won last year, but he has it all to do with Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and recent Open champion Francesco Molinari all featuring. Also in the field is Tiger Woods – who has an amazing record in this tournament with eight wins to his name.
QUOTES: Matsuyama, who was jostling to be world number one 12-months ago, is now down to number 16 after a poor run of form and he is hoping he can get back to winning ways at Firestone.
“I started out the new season and I really haven’t played that well,” Matsuyama said.
“I’ve been grinding and practicing hard. Hopefully, this will be a week that I can catch the magic again and play well.”

An outstanding looking tournament, it has to be said, and it looks a great send off for Firestone and this tournament. I am not sure I see Tiger producing the perfect send off by winning again, but I can see Jordan Spieth going well here.
