Billericay aiming at Football League

Billericay Town’s odds of making the Football League have been further cut after persuading Jamie O’Hara to join the Ryman Premier League outfit.

With former England star Paul Konchesky on-board, O’Hara has now joined the Essex-based side owned by millionaire Glenn Tamplin.

Tamplin used reality TV star Mark Wright, ho is mutual friend of O’Hara – to work a deal for the former Tottenham ace – whose last club was Gillingham last seaosn.

O’Hara has since starred in Celebrity Big Brother, but is now determined to get his football career back on track.

‘Mark (Wright) is a good friend of mine and had a chat with me and wanted me to have a chat with the owner, Glenn,” O’Hara told TalkSport.

“I went and had a chat with him and he said, “do you want to come down here, get your fitness up and play some football until the end of the season?” I couldn’t really turn it down.

“The manager wants me next season and I have agreed a contract for next season as well, but there is a clause in the deal that says if a League One or higher club come in, then I would get back to playing at that level.

“I want to play at the highest level and I still believe I am capable of playing in professional football.”

Ladbrokes have been quick to price up Billericay – who are three promotions away from the Football League – to make it into the league within five years, rating them at 10/1.

Ladbrokes News’ Alex Apati said: “It’s not often our traders get requests like this, but we’re expecting Billericay Town to go from strength to strength in the near future.”

“Mark Wright and Jamie O’Hara are by no means strangers to reality TV either, so don’t be surprised to see the cameras turning up at some point.”
