The Duke’s Easter racing preview

Easter Weekend kicks off on Good Friday with the All-Weather Championships at Lingfield and there’s some decent races to look at.

Kimberella won his first start for Richard Fahey since switching from Dandy Nicholls’ yard and I think he has a decent chance of following up in a competitive affair at 3.10. The race after at 3.40 will see Ennaadd at a very short price and while he may well justify it, there’s some each-way value in French raider Qurbaan who has a really good record on all-weather surfaces.

Musselburgh draws the focus on Saturday.

Keep a close eye on runners from Keith Dalgleish’s yard and Kevin Ryan’s set-up. They both do well at Musselburgh. Mazyoun looks pretty interesting in the 3.00. He’s been gelded over the winter having shown some promise last year, notably placing in the Two-Year Old Trophy at Redcar.

The 3.35 Queen’s Cup Handicap is a very tricky puzzle, but the handicapper has given a chance to Richard Fahey’s old boy Angel Gabrial. He’s on a mark of 96, the same as when he won the Northumberland Plate in 2014. Sure, he hasn’t won since then, but if he’s going to win a big pot again it could be here.

On Sunday and Monday there could be real battles between Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins, as there have been for many years now. They go head-to-head at Fairyhouse, both with some live chances. Cheltenham winner Let’s Dance will be odds-on in the Mares’ race for Mullins, while he may also have Yorkhill in the Ryanair Gold Cup Novice Chase.

Gordon Elliott will be mob handed in the Irish Grand National and while you can make a case for any of his, I’m more drawn to a few of the others.

Our Duke for Jessie Harrington makes a lot of appeal. The yard is in good form and he’s a classy horse who won a novice Grade 1 at Leopardstown over the festive period.

I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Shutthefrontdoor, who won the race in 2014 were to bounce back. However, the each-way pick is Fletchers Flyer, who could steal the pot for the British. Harry Fry’s horse has a touch of class, he will stay the trip and he’s on a fair mark.

Have a great weekend and Happy Easter everyone.
