Cristiano Ronaldo’s odds for the World Cup Golden Boot have been slashed after he opened his campaign with a hat-trick.
Ronaldo sealed his treble with just minutes left of their clash with Spain to give Portugal a hard fought 3-3 draw.
Now he is in good shape to compete for the Golden Boot – since 1978 – six goals has been good enough to take the title, with two exceptions. Miroslav Klose’s five goals was enough in 2006 and the only time someone has scored more in that time is his namesake Ronaldo for Brazil in 2002.
Ronaldo was 16/1 before the tournament started, but he is now 2/1 favourite.
bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “Just when you think Ronaldo has done it all, he goes and does that little bit extra – his backers will be delighted.”
