Jose Mourinho has played down any talk that he could be on his way out of the club.

The Manchester United boss has seen his side suffer an in-different start to the new season, with two losses to go with two wins.

That had followed a controversial transfer window which saw United fail to bring in the players Mourinho had asked for.

Mourinho has a contract for at least another two years having agreed fresh terms in January this year, but reports suggested that executive vice chairman Ed Woodward was considering axing the Portuguese.

But speaking to the Italian press Mourinho quipped that there is no way United would pay the compensation required to axe him.

“They say I’m in danger, but I don’t think so,” Mourinho is quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.

“If they sent me away, do you have any idea how much money they would have to give me?”

Despite Mourinho’s confidence he remains favourite to be the first Premier League manager to leave his post this season although West Ham’s Manuel Pellegrini is closing on him after losing their first four games.

“We have seen a flurry of bets over the last couple of days on Manuel Pellegrini being the first managerial casualty in the Premier League this season where he has only Jose Mourinho ahead of him in the betting,” said Coral’s John Hill.
