Aidan O’Brien closes on world record

Aidan O’Brien is being backed to break Bobby Frankel’s Group One Winners World Record this Saturday at Ascot.

The Ballydoyle trainer currently has 24 Group One successes this year and is 1/2 to equal Frankel’s record of 25 Group/Grade One winners in a calendar year.

O’Brien is rated at 10/3 to break the record, and he needs two winners to secure the landmark.

O’Brien saddles the likes of Churchill, Cliffs Of Moher and Caravaggio on Champions Day at Ascot.

Aoife Heffron, Spokeswoman for BoyleSports commented: “It looks like it could be a monumental day at Ascot on Saturday for Aidan O’Brien as he is expected to equal Bobby Frankel’s Group 1 record and may even surpass it, which is currently 1/2 and 10/3 respectively.

“With four top flight races and dual-Guineas winner Churchill on his team we suspect it could be one for the history books.”
