Aidan O’Brien looking at classic clean sweep

Aidan O’Brien is being backed to make history and become the first ever trainer to land all five UK classics.

O’Brien himself has won four in one season, but never all five – which are:

  • 2,000 Guineas Stakes.
  • 1,000 Guineas Stakes.
  • The Oaks
  • The Derby
  • St. Leger

The Irish superstar trainer has all five ante post favourites ahead of the new season and is just 20/1 to win all five.

The Ballydoyle handler has Gustav Klimt and Saxon Warrior as co-favourites for the 2000 Guineas, whilst Happily is into 7/2 favourite for the 1000 Guineas in the likely absence of previous market leader Clemmie and she is also 6/1 favourite for The Oaks.

Saxon Warrior is 3/1 favourite to claim O’Brien’s second Derby in two years after Wings Of Eagles pipped Cliffs of Moher to the prize in 2017.

Lawrence Lyons, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented: “Aidan O’Brien has such a strong team to send into battle this year and with market leaders scattered all over our antepost markets we’re not surprised to be seeing the money for a clean sweep of Classics.

“Saxon Warrior’s win at Doncaster in October secured a new Group 1 world record for O’Brien last year and with such a strong Ballydoyle team ready to spring into action we have to be wary at 4/1 that the maestro sets a new mark this term again.”
