Premier League clubs are back on alert about the possibility of landing Antoine Griezmann this summer after he seemingly got cold feet about a switch to Barcelona.
The Atletico Madrid star has intimated to his club that he would likely leave, with Barcelona leading the chase and poised to pay his release clause of around £88million.
However, I understand from sources that a number of Premier League clubs have been told that Griezmann could yet be an option for him.
Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have all held a major interest in the 27-year-old, but they were led to believe that Griezmann had opted to move to Barca – but that may not now be the case.
Atletico too have been buoyed by the news and have a new deal lined up to offer to Griezmann very soon.
It had been anticipated that Griezmann’s future would be resolved before the start of the World Cup finals, but that now does not look likely.
Bookmakers have reacted by slashing the odds on Griezmann staying at Atletico and Betway now make him odds-on at 1/2 to remain.
Betway’s Alan Alger, said: “Antoine Griezmann had looked all set to join Barcelona at just 4/11, but we’ve seen strong support for the French striker remaining at Atletico Madrid all week.
“Griezmann is now 1/2 to stay at the Wanda Metropolitano after this summer’s transfer window, having been as big as 11/4 last month, with the striker seemingly keen to continue his career with Atletico rather than at the Nou Camp.
“Barcelona are now 2/1 to sign him, while Manchester United, who have been linked in the past, are 6/1 to bring him to Old Trafford.”
