Griezmann set for Barca barring late English interest

Antoine Griezmann is heading for Barcelona, unless a late offer from England emerges – according to sources.

The French star looks set to leave Atletico Madrid this summer, something he backed away from doing last year due to a transfer embargo on the Spanish outfit – which meant they could not replace him.

Now 12-months on, the 27-year-old can leave for a set fee of €100million (£88million) due to a clause in his contract.

Barcelona have been chasing Griezmann for more than a year, and well placed sources believe they have all but done a deal – although late interest from England could cause issues.

Barca insiders believe that Manchester City and Chelsea could be their main rivals, which is why they are trying to push through a deal for a soon as the season has finished.

Atletico are far from happy they are losing one of their stars, and their CEO Miguel Gil Marin admits they are ‘fed up’ with Barcelona’s chase of Greizmann.

“Not once have we negotiated for Griezmann nor do we have any intention to do so,” he said in a statement.

“A few months ago, I personally expressed to Barcelona’s president that our player isn’t for sale nor are we going to sell him. At the same time, I let him know that his inappropriate conduct was against the integrity of the competition.”

Bookmakers are convinced that Griezmann is on his way to the Camp Nou, and he is odds-on – PaddyPower list him at 1/4.
