Hammers stars not happy

Michail Antonio and Winston Reid both want new deals on much better terms at West Ham United.

Both players are sat on long-term deals already – Antonio to 2020 and Reid to 2021, but both players want a pay rise.

West Ham were close to agreeing terms late last year, and then Jose Fonte was signed – which has caused friction at the club.

The Hammers bought Fonte from Southampton in January and handed him a deal worth over £70,000-a-week.

The new deals for Antonio and Reid were similar to Fonte, but both players feel they should be paid more than the Portuguese given their importance to the club.

However, West Ham have refused to up their offer and both players are far form happy and the concern is that the ructions could spread to other players.

Antonio and Reid are refusing to back down, but likewise West Ham know that both are on long term deals and there is little they can do in reality.

However, a source has told me that there is concern within the club about not keeping their best players happy, as both players would and are very attractive options to Premier League rivals.

“Once they knew what Fonte was getting, that changed things – both players, and not many would disagree – feel they are worth more to the club than him,” the source told me.

Antonio has been with West Ham since 2015 when he joined from Nottingham Forest and he has emerged as a key figure for them, and has also been called up to the England squad.

Reid joined the Hammers in 2010 from Danish side FC Midtjylland after impressing at the World Cup finals for New Zealand and has since become one of the most highly-rated centre-halves in the Premier League.
