Arrogate heads World Cup field

American superstar Arrogate lead the 14-strong field for Saturday’s Dubai World Cup at Meydan.

The highest rated horse in the world, the four-year old is due to arrived in the Middle East later this week ahead of going after the the $10million 10-furlong contest -which is the centre piece of the richest day of horse racing in the world,

Bob Baffert – who has won the contest twice in the past – is saddling Arrogate and Hoppertunity, who finished third in the race 12-months ago.

“They all look well and they all went on the track well – they’ve handled everything well,” said Baffert.

“It’s a tough task as you’re flying halfway across the world and then you’re on the long trip to the track everyday, it can be a bit tough on them but so far they’re handling it well.”

Baffert is hopeful that Arrogate will handle the conditions at Meydan and said: “The heat is a factor. It is long way to the track, they are not used to walking that far. We won’t do a lot with him. We’ll go easy with him.”

Gun Runner, Keen Ice and Neolithic also represent America, whilst there are four Japanese contenders – but there will be no British interest in the main race.
