Arsenal confident over Ozil

Arsenal remain confident that they can persuade Mesut Ozil to sign a new deal.

The German international midfielder is out-of-contract at the end of the season, and is free to talk to clubs in January.

Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich are amongst those to show an interest, whilst there is also understood to have been interest from some Premier League rivals in the 29-year-old.

Reports had suggested that Arsenal had made a final offer, but Arsene Wenger insists talks are ongoing.

“Negotiations are always going on with everybody,” he said.

“I said that many times [that I want Alexis Sanchez and Ozil to stay] and that’s all we can say. Is it two years to go? One year to go? Three months to go? The door is always open and for the rest I cannot tell you much more.”

Sources who know the situation have also told me that Arsenal remain confident that they can still get Ozil to put pen-to-paper.

And Bookmakers firmly believe that Arsenal will keep Ozil

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Mesut Ozil may be able to sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs from January, but we think the Gunners will pull out all the stops to persuade the German to sign a new contract in the New Year.

“The Arsenal hierarchy are expected to offer Ozil a bumper deal worth £275,000-per-week in the coming months and he’s now heavily favoured at 1/5 to extend his stay at the Emirates before the end of the January transfer window.

“Barcelona looks Ozil’s most likely destination if he is to sign a pre-contract agreement, with the Catalan giants 8/1 to agree a deal for the 29-year-old.”
