Arsenal pull plug on Arteta and go for Emery

Arsenal have pulled the plug on their talks with Mikel Arteta to become their new manager and are instead looking at appointing Unai Emery.

Arteta met with The Gunners over the weekend, and terms on a three-year deal had been agreed with his representatives and only small details needed finalising.

But the club’s new footballing hierarchy of chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat have now been swayed by negative fan reaction to Arteta’s impending appointment and moved for the more experienced man.

Emery has spent the last two seasons with Paris Saint Germain, and was named French Coach of the Year after claiming the domestic treble – but that was not enough to save his job and was replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

But now the former Sevilla coach is the man to take over from Arsene Wenger, and Bookmakers have reacted quickly by closing their markets on him landing the job – with an announcement expected in the next 24-hours.
