Arsenal remain hopeful that they can persuade Alexis Sanchez to sign a new deal with the club.
The Chilean star has made it clear he does not want to sign a new contract, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.
Sanchez believed he was going to become a City player on deadline day, and Arsenal accepted a £60milion offer – but they could not find a replacement when a move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar failed.
Sanchez will now have to stay with Arsenal until January at least and they are set to use that time to try and win him round, and Arsene Wenger is confident he will react well.
“Your interest is always to perform and he is 100 per cent committed, I have no doubt about that,” Wenger told beIN SPORTS.
“It’s very difficult for me to speak about what happened because what I want the player to do now is focus on his career, on his season and on Arsenal Football Club.
“I spoke before about integrity and values and I always make sure my commitment is at the level expected from the people who pay me and have confidence in me. I think the players’ side is exactly the same.”
Sources at The Emirates suggest that they are hoping Sanchez can be persuaded to stay.
Bookmakers, though remain unconvinced the Chilean will stay, Ladbrokes price him at 2/1 to make the move.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Deadline Day has passed, but that hasn’t stopped our traders pricing up potential moves for the ones that couldn’t get away this time around.”
