Arsene Wenger maintains Mesut Ozil belief

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger maintains his belief that Mesut Ozil will sign a new contract at the club.

Ozil claimed the only goal of the game in the win over Newcastle at the weekend as he continues to impress, but he is continually being linked with moves away from the club.

The German international is out-of-contract at the end of the season and he is not short of admirers with Manchester United and Barcelona both understood to be keen to land him.

On Ozil’s future, Wenger said: “I’m confident, yes, but what does that mean? I don’t know,” he answered somewhat cryptically when asked whether Ozil will stay.”

Whislt Ozil’s future could lie away from Arsenal, Bookmakers certainly believe that Wenger will not be selling next month.

“Everyone in the media seems to think Ozil is off in January but, a bit like Arsene Wenger, our punter aren’t buying,” said Paddy Power spokesman Lee Price.

“Given Mourinho’s recent comments, though, it could be a market that ramps up – but, right now, it looks like the Gunners are holding firm. Until deadline day, at least.”
