Bailey’s Bullet Points

Our Football Insider Graeme Bailey looks back on the weekend’s footballing action and brings you his ‘Bullet points’….

  • HUGE WINS FOR WIN-LESS PAIR
If ever two teams needed wins it was Huddersfield and Newcastle – both have achieved that and will now be looking to build.
  • CLARET TURNING SOUR
Burnley need to improve, they look the shadow of the side they were but they need to improve and quickly.
  • PRESSURE GROWING ON HUGHES
A number of managers look under real pressure – but for me none more so than Mark Hughes. They were on the end of a huge battering at Man City and he can’t have too long left on his tenure at St Mary’s.
  • NEVER UNDER-ESTIMATE JOSE
Jose Mourinho’s side showed their class at the weekend, coming back to win at Bournemouth is as impressive as any display this season. Mourinho looks to have turned things around.
  • GOAL OF THE WEEKEND
Alexandre Lacazette – a brilliant finish from the Frenchman, curling ball home against Liverpool to secure a point.
  • PLAYERS OF THE WEEKEND
A lot of candidates but my players of the weekend would be….
GOALKEEPER – Kasper Schmeichel – A hugely emotional weekend for the Dane but he performed exceptionally well and kept clean-sheet.
DEFENDER – Virgil van Dijk – Was outstanding for Liverpool at Arsenal, showing himself what a world-class performer he has become.
MIDFIELDER –  Erik Lamela – Has been outstanding for Spurs in recent weeks and was again in their win at Wolves with an assist and a goal.
FORWARD – Richarlison – Many doubted his huge fee in the summer but he is developing quickly into a top central striker under Marco Silva.
