Barcelona new favourites for Champions League

Barcelona have been made the new favourites for the Champions League after the first-legs of quarter-finals.

Barca romped to a 4-1 win over Roma which means they have one leg already in the last four, which came as former favourites Manchester City were handed a shock 3-0 mauling at Liverpool.

Now with City’s odds drifting hugely, it is Barca who are now favourites to claim Europe’s top prize.

However, Barcelona were not convinced by their own performance.

“It’s a struggle to win every game. We got a good result, but we haven’t done anything yet,” said boss Ernesto Valverde

“The truth is we know that in the game we can and we must improve in several points,” Barca’s Ivan Rakitic said.

“But we’re very happy for the work. When maybe you’re not playing at 100 per cent, you have to stay together, to be strong. 5-1 would be better than 4-1, to be more calm, and we know Roma will try to turn it around.”

Bookmakers make Barca 2/1 favourites, ahead of arch-rivals and defending champions Real Madrid at 5/2 – following their emphatic win at Juventus.

BetVictor’s Head of ante post Football Michael Triffitt commented: “Real Madrid shortened to 11/4 joint favourites with Barcelona after beating Juventus on Tuesday then Barcelona returned to outright market leaders at 2/1 following their easy win over Roma.

“With Manchester City easing to 12/1 from 10/3 Liverpool have shortened to 9/2 from 10/1.”
