Barcelona or Paris? Neymar has decision to make

Paris Saint Germain head coach Unai Emery has confirmed that they would be interested in signing Brazilian superstar Neymar.

Brazilian reports insist that Neymar is ready to accept an offer from PSG, who would pay the £195million release clause to Barcelona – so in theory they could not stop him leaving.

Although Barca insist nobody can do this, their president Josep Bartomeu  has said: “These clauses are impossible to activate if you want to comply with the financial fair play.

“If someone doesn’t want to comply, then of course it can be activated.”

Spanish media believe Neymar will stay and his father has given Barca’s some assurances that a deal is not on the cards, whilst in France they believe PSG do want him and it is claimed sporting director Antero Henrique has rushed back from the club’s US tour to discuss “urgent business” with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Now Emery has admitted that PSG would want a play like Neymar.

“PSG wants the best players in the world, who are in the best clubs in the world,” Emery told L’Equipe.

“If we want to compete with Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and win the Champions League, then PSG must have a player of the world top five. We are trying to get one signed this summer.

“Neymar belongs to the top five in the world. The president and the club have been working for years to attract the best players.”

It now remains to be seen if PSG are going to step up their interest, and they do already have strong Brazilian links with assistant sporting director being former player Maxwell, and they have the likes of Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Lucas Moura and recently signed Dani Alves in their squad already.

We spoke to Brazilian based journalist Paulo Freitas for his take on the situation.

“Regarding Neymar, the info here in Brazil is that he has already decided to move and that he already told PSG players that he will join them. The signing of Daniel Alves supposedly is something that motivated him to make that decision,” he told TheGamblingTimes.com.

“Of course it still depends on Barcelona accepting to sell him though. It’s hard to guess how likely it is for the transfer to happen, Barcelona don’t seem to want to sell him but PSG could afford his buyout fee. I would guess the chance is at least clearly above ‘none’.”

We also spoke to PaddyPower about the betting market on the Brazilian, and they can’t split them as they rate both PSG and Barca at 5/6 to have him next season.

“Barcelona say Neymar is not for sale, even if Paris St Germain meet his frankly ridiculous buy-out clause,” spokesman Lee Price told us.

“The French club reckon they have a chance, though – but I think Neymar’s agent is just taking the PS-G.”
