Barcelona have still not given up on Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.
Liverpool had believed that the issue had been put to bed after they turned down a third offer last week and refused to enter into dialogue with the Spanish giants.
However, Spanish sources insist that a fourth bid of around £138million will be coming in this week – although this again looks unlikely to be successful.
Football INDEX Watch – Philippe Coutinho – £3.44…looks a good option at his current price for sure.
The Spanish club’s interest remains due to Coutinho’s reluctance to give up on the chance to move to the Nou Camp – as it is understood he is pleading with Liverpool’s hierarchy to let him leave.
However, I am told by some sources close to Liverpool that an offer of £150million would not be enough to get him, so it does seem the fourth if offer – if and when it is made – is highly unlikely to be successful.
We spoke to bookmakers PaddyPower about the Coutinho market – which currently sees the Brazilian rated at 1/7 to stay put.
“Jesus, Barcelona are almost as desperate/persistent as me trying to find a high school prom date,” said PaddyPower spokesman Lee Price.
“Liverpool, like the best looking girls in class, seem to have made themselves clear – and we’re now 1/7 that he stays.
“Still, don’t worry Barca – give it a year, where you can blossom, and you might get your crush next year. Or move on to less over-priced and arguably better alternatives.”
