Bayern embarrass Arsenal, again; Real ease through

Bayern Munich beat Arsenal 5-1 again in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 clash as Real Madrid also eased past Napoli.

The two favourites for the Champions League showed just why they are at the head of the betting with two emphatic displays.

In a mirror to their first-leg Bayern again beat Arsene Wenger’s beleaguered outfit 5-1 to give them a 10-2 aggregate win. This all came after Theo Walcott had put Arsenal ahead after 20-minutes – but things soon changed after half-time when Laurent Koscielny was sent-off for a challenge on Robert Lewandowski, which the referee initially booked him for before changing his mind.

The ubiquitous Pole stepped up to convert from the spot, which opened the floodgates as Arsenal capitulated yet again.

Bayern scored three goals in 12-minutes as Arjen Robben put them ahead before Douglas Costa scored a brilliant third – not long before Arturo Vidal added another.

Chilean Vidal slotted home the fifth to seal Arsenal’s fate – which secures their place as favourites for the Champions League.

Not far behind Bayern in the betting are Real Madrid, who saw off Napoli with a 2-1 win at the Sao Paolo.

Belgian Dries Mertens had struck first for Napoli – but Real hit back just after the break with Sergio Ramos heading home twice from Toni Kroos crosses, although the second went down as a Mertens own goal.

The third was added in stoppage time by Alvaro Morata, which gave them a 6-2 aggregate win.

Madrid are now rated 4/1 second favourites to retain their crown.
