Beckham still has eyes on big name for Miami

David Beckham could be ready to broker a deal with his former club Manchester United as he looks for a potential big signing for his new club Inter Miami.

Beckham’s newest venture is Inter Miami – who have just kicked-off in Major League Soccer as the newest team.

Despite being linked to a number of big names, Miami have not yet landed a real star player – but it is something they are considering.

And it is understood one name they are looking at is Alexis Sanchez, who is set to head back to Manchester United this summer following his loan spell at Inter Milan – which has not gone according to plan.

Injuries have limited Sanchez to just two league starts and sources at United believe that he will be sent back, but options are already being looked at – and one is possible move to Major League Soccer.

And Miami do have a ‘Designated Player’ slot available. MLS teams are allowed three DP players – who can be paid big salaries, without it counting against their salary caps, and ironically it is nicknamed the ‘Beckham Rule’ as it was brought in to help facilitate his move to Los Angeles Galaxy on huge wages back in 2007.

Now if Miami were to show a real interest in Sanchez – it would have to be on a DP deal, as he carries huge wages of near £400,000-a-week, although United know they would have to subsidise any move – but they do have some hope that their former star Beckham could do them something of a favour by taking Sanchez off their hands.

Beckham’s new side have been linked with a host of big names including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, but as yet they have not landed the big star they were expected to.

But many believe it will happen and former United team-mate Mikael Silvestre – who also played in MLS with Portland – thinks Beckham will make a big splash.

“Becks will definitely have the reach to bring big in names because of who he is and what he can do, and the connections and network he has,” he said.

“We should be seeing some very big names at Inter Miami in the near future.

Bookmakers believe the most likely big name to arrive is Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani rated at 6/1 with PaddyPower, whilst Sanchez is 14/1 to make the move.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “As well as being the world’s most handsome man, David Beckham has launched Inter Miami and there’s talks of him nabbing some big names to be on his books.

“Cavani is our favourite to join Becks, though Ronaldo moving from Italy to the States is a relatively short price, too.”
