Benitez and Jokanovic odds cut in sack race

Rafa Benitez and Slavisa Jokanovic have both seen their odds cut dramatically in the Premier League sack race.

Newcastle remain without a win this season and are bottom of the Premier League, and Fulham are not much better off – sitting third from the foot of the table with just one win to their name.

Benitez admits that pressure is mounting on him and his players.

“We’re a little bit under pressure because the time is short now,” said the Spaniard.

Jokanovic insists that he is not thinking about his future.

“I can find the solution,” he said. “My job is to keep working and fighting to find the solution.”

Bookmakers have now slashed odds on both Jokanovic and Benitez, into 11/4 and 6/1 respectively – although Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho remains favourite at 5/2.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “While Jose Mourinho’s point against Chelsea has helped him live another day, Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has once again been heavily backed for the sack in the last 24 hours, following his side’s 4-2 defeat at Cardiff.

“The Serbian is now just 11/4, having been as big as 10/1, to be the first Premier League manager to leave their post this season, and with this Saturday’s encounter with high-flying Bournemouth looming, another defeat could be curtains for the Cottagers’ boss.

“Rafael Benitez is another whose odds have shortened, and with his Newcastle side still rock bottom of the table on two points, it’s no surprise we’ve seen him go from 9/1 to 6/1, while Jose Mourinho heads the betting at 5/2, having drifted from 6/4 since the weekend.”
