Betfred Super League – Round 2 Preview

The second round of the new Super League is here and it opens with the undoubted game of the week as Warrington host champions St Helens.

Warrington Wolves vs St Helens (Thursday, 7.45pm)

Match Odds with Betfred: Warrington 6/4, Saints 8/13, Tie 22/1

Betfred says: Warrington lost little in defeat against Wigan in the season’s opener, at one point playing with 11-men and still threatening the Warriors defence. However, this Saints team were mightily impressive when beating Salford by a 40-point margin, and even on the little evidence so far they look like continuing their dominance of the Betfred Super League. They can take this one – and the result will teach us plenty.

Castleford Tigers vs Wigan Warriors (Friday, 7.45pm)

Match Odds with Betfred: Castleford 2/1, Wigan 4/9, Tie 25/1

Betfred says: Castleford denied Toronto Wolfpack a fairy tale entrance into the Betfred Super League when beating them 28-10 last week. That was a great statement after a lacklustre pre-season, and they will be confident going into this – but Wigan look like they have that little bit of extra class and take this by ten or more.

Hull FC vs Hull KR (Friday, 7.45pm)

Match Odds with Betfred: Hull FC 2/11, Hull KR 9/2, Tie 25/1

Betfred says: Hull FC put in arguably the most impressive performance of round one when beating Leeds, at Headingley, 30-4. Hull KR will themselves be delighted with a comfortable victory over Wakefield, but this is probably a step too far away from home against their local rivals, who should win by 12 or more.

Salford Red Devils vs Toronto Wolfpack (Saturday, 2pm)

Match Odds with Betfred: Salford 2/5, Toronto 9/4, Tie 22/1

Betfred says: Salford couldn’t have asked for a tougher start to the season coming up against Saints, and they will be desperate to put that behind them here against Toronto Wolfpack. While we do believe the Canadians will come good at some point this term, Salford can get their first win on the board here – although it could be by a smaller margin than some may expect.

Huddersfield Giants vs Leeds Rhinos (Sunday, 3pm)

Match Odds with Betfred: Huddersfield 5/6, Leeds 11/10, Tie 22/1

Betfred says: This is probably the hardest game to predict this week given Huddersfield were not expected to beat Catalans in France, but they did so comfortably by 20 points. Leeds were mightily disappointing, albeit against an impressive Hull FC, and it’s hard to see them finding that much improvement in such a short space of time, so Huddersfield can take this by six or more.

Wakefield Trinity vs Catalans Dragons (Sunday, 3pm)

Match Odds with Betfred: Wakefield 11/10, Catalans 5/6, Tie 20/1

Betfred says: Another tough one to predict – as shown by the odds – with both teams making a disappointing start to the season. Catalans are, on paper, the stronger side, so it’s safer siding with them for this one.
