England full-back Ryan Bertrand is odds-on to join Manchester City this summer.
The Southampton defender has long been linked with a move away from St Mary’s this summer.
The 27-year-old will carry a price tag of around £40million, which looks to of put off Liverpool – who remain keen on his team-mate Virgil van Dijk.
But now City are very much in pole position, having seen talks for Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy falter – although sources suggest they could bring both in as Pep Guardiola’s wants a major defensive overhaul.
Bookmakers are convinced that Bertrand is heading for The Etihad and Ladbrokes price him at 1/4 to make the move.
Our Football Insider Graeme Bailey told us: “City have had an interest in Bertrand for most of this year, and it little surprise that a move now appears to be gaining some traction.
“Bertrand is an excellent full-back and would no doubt be a massive boost for the City squad to get someone of his calibre through the doors.”
