Betting suspended over Diego Costa

Bookmakers have suspended markets on Diego Costa leaving Chelsea this summer.

The Brazilian-born Spanish international was told by Blues boss Antonio Conte earlier this summer that he not part of his plans.

The club have also sealed a deal for Alvaro Morata, meaning there is no way back for Costa – who was also left out of their squad for the pre-season tour to Asia.

Now Costa is expected to leave with former club Atletico Madrid the most likely destination – although he could not play for them until January, due to their transfer ban.

AC Milan have also been strongly linked, and he could very well join the Italian club on loan prior to moving to Madrid – but what does seem certain is that he will be leaving Chelsea.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “It looks like a case of the Costa deal’s go, as bets have flooded in for the Premier League’s ultimate bastard to depart.

“Our customers have lumped on Atletico and AC Milan signing him, which suggests an arrangement has been reached to get around the Atletic transfer ban.”
