The betting industry is expecting £200million to be gambled this weekend, making it the biggest in history, according to OddsMonkey.
The mainstay of the bets is the World Cup, with the semi-finalists to be decided this weekend, and that could very well see England into the last four.
England face Sweden and more than £25million is expected to be gambled on that match alone – whilst the likes of favourites Brazil and France will also garner a lot of support.
Aside from the football, Wimbledon is ongoing and this weekend will see British number one Kyle Edmund face former champion Novak Djokovic in a mouthwatering contest.
There is also the British Grand Prix at Silverstone with Lewis Hamilton looking to return to winnings ways, whilst the Tour De France begins on Saturday with British star Chris Froome looking for his fifth title.
Racing can also boast a big event with the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown, and with Love Island still going – it is easy to see why this weekend will be a record breaker.
“There is so much going on this weekend, the World Cup and Gareth Southgate’s men have go the country buzzing and the Punters are certainly putting their money where their mouths are, with England now second favourites,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.
“We have Lewis Hamilton, who will be firm favourite for the British Grand Prix, and Wimbledon with Kyle Edmund going strong.
“There is also the Tour De France with Chris Froome looking to make history, this weekend could be an amazing one for British sport as well as the betting industry as a whole.
“And one to look for in the Coral-Eclipse, the big race – it seems that patriotic punters are really getting behind Roaring Lion, who is now into just 3/1.
“Bookmakers are telling us they are going to be over £200million, whilst some are estimating that by the end of the weekend we could hit the quarter of a billion mark!”
Selected patriotic bet:
England, Lewis Hamilton, Kyle Edmund and Roaring Lion all to win this weekend – 70/1
