Blues on the brink as Boro are relegated

Chelsea are just one win away from the Premier League title, as they beat Middlesbrough 3-0 – a result which also relegated the North East club.

The Blues saw Tottenham lose to West Ham on Friday, and they knew that meant victory on Monday against Boro and then again against West Brom later this week – would be enough to seal their second title in three years and their fifth in the Premier League era.

And Antonio Conte’s men made no mistake with a comfortable success over Boro.

Marcos Alonso hit the woodwork just over 60 seconds in as they dominated the opening exchanges before taking the lead on 23-minutes when Diego Costa converted after being picked out by Cesc Fabregas.

Alonso then go on the score-sheet when he beat Brad Guzan at his near post on 34-minutes.

Into the second-half and the third goal arrived just after the hour when Nemanja Matic claimed his first ever goal at Stamford Bridge as he fired through the legs of Guzan following a brilliant flowing move.

The defeat means Boro are relegated after just one season back in the Premier League.
