Bookmakers are fearing Liverpool winning the Premier League going into the new season.
A first Premier League title win for 4/1 shots Liverpool and relegation at 13/2 for Southampton would be the worst possible results for Betway, ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been well-supported throughout the off-season and sit second in the betting at 4/1, having been as big as 6/1, and only are behind defending champions Manchester City at 4/6.
A lack of further additions at Manchester United have seen the Red Devils pushed out to 11/1 from 10/1, while Tottenham have drifted gradually over the summer and are now 16/1, having been as short as 12/1.
Meanwhile, Southampton are the team Betway least want to be relegated this season, with Mark Hughes’ side having been backed into 8/1 from 13/2.
The Saints narrowly avoided relegation last season, and punters believe they could be in serious danger of the drop yet again.
New boys Cardiff have shortened as the favourites for relegation at 8/13, ahead of Huddersfield at 21/20 and Watford at 9/4.
Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Liverpool fans have been waiting for their first Premier League title for what seems an eternity, but punters seem to believe this is finally their year.
“The Reds have been well-supported into 4/1 and are comfortably the worst result in the book for us.
“At the other end of the table, Southampton, who survived by the skin of their teeth last season, have been very well backed in recent days and are 13/2 from 8/1.
“Cardiff have been the favourites for the drop since their promotion from the Championship last season and there another side who have been backed, with Neil Warnock’s side 8/13 from 4/6.”
