Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leaving Manchester United next season.

Solskjaer landed the United job on a permanent basis in March, after being appointed interim manager on December after the club sacked Jose Mourinho.

Solskjaer enjoyed the best start to an Old Trafford career of any manager, but recent weeks things have turned sour with five defeats in their last seven games – including being out-classed by Barcelona over two-legs in their Champions League quarter-final.

“The next few years will be massive for us to get to the level of Barcelona,” Solskjaer said.

“We have got good players and, at the moment, we really have done well to get to the quarters and to get in the challenge for the top four.

“We have got a rebuilding job but that starts with the coaches and the players and one or two additions to the squad will happen in the summer.”

United have also dropped to sixth in the Premier League and the odds are hugely against them on making the top-four.

Now the odds on him leaving next season have been cut to 11/8 and he is 16/1 to be the first Premier League manager to leave.

They are 8/1 to win the league in Solskjaer’s first season, which as the prices suggests – is something of a long-shot at the moment.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Ole’s wheels look to have officially fallen off, and we think his days are numbered already.

“Impossible owners and board members mean United is becoming a turn-off, rather than a turn-on, and we think Ole will be gone by Christmas. Better think of a new chant, lads.”
