Middlesbrough have been made the new favourites to win the Championship after Garry Monk landed the manager’s job at The Riverside.
Boro chief Steve Gibson has turned to Monk, following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
Steve Agnew has been in interim charge of the club since they sacked Aitor Karanka in March – but it remains to be seen if he now remains at the club.
Monk himself has been available since quitting his job at Leeds, after he failed to agree a fresh deal with their owner Andrea Radrizzani.
Monk has been favourite for the Boro role since leaving Elland Road, and now the two parties have finally come together, and many feel he is a very good fit.
Bookmakers believe Boro are now favourites for promotion and are 7/1 favourites with bet365 to follow in the footsteps of Newcastle and win the title, and are 9/4 for promotion.
Bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “We thought Boro were better equipped for a return to the Premier League before the appointments and the arrival of Garry Monk, so impressive at Leeds last season, will probably enhance their chances further.”
