British clubs learn Europa fate

Chelsea, Arsenal, Celtic and Rangers have all learned who they will be playing in the group stages.

Arsenal came out in Group E and will come up against Sporting Lisbon, Qarabag of Azerbaijan and Ukrainian side Vorskla.

Chelsea, who won the competition in 2013, were drawn into Group L with Greek side PAOK Salonika, BATE Borisov of Belarus and Hungarian outfit Vidi.

Scottish champions Celtic are in Group B and have a tough looking draw in the shape of German outfit RB Leipzi, Austrian’s Salzburg and Rosenborg of Norway.

Rangers find themselves in Group G where they will also face Austrian opposition in the shape of Rapid Vienna along with Villarreal and Spartak Moscow.

Bookmakers reacted to the draw by installing Chelsea as favourites at 6/1, ahead of Arsenal at 8/1.

BetVictor’s Head of antepost Football Michael Triffitt commented: “English sides Chelsea and Arsenal head the market for the Europa League at 6/1 and 8/1 respectably and both were handed groups that give them excellent chances of progression.

“Scottish champions Celtic have some tricky opponents and are 66/1 to lift the cup whilst Rangers, who were in Pot 4 and always liable to face a very tough set of fixtures, are 200/1 for outright glory but will need to play well to advance.”
