Callum Wilson backed for England slot

Callum Wilson is odds-on to be selected in Gareth Southgate’s next England squad.

Wilson is one of three uncapped strikers, along with Brighton’s Glenn Murray and Danny Ings of Southampton, who are all believed to have been discussed as potential new internationals.

Southgate is due to name his squad for upcoming fixtures with USA and Croatia, and Bournemouth striker Wilson looks the most likely given his excellent recent form.

“I don’t really want to talk too much about it. I don’t want to talk my way into the squad, I want to play my way in,” said Wilson.

“I just want to focus on game by game and improve my game.

“I’m still only 26, I’ve missed a lot of football. I’m catching up now. So yes, I’m always working at it, working on the training field, trying to improve.

“It’s nice to have the achievement of scoring 50 goals. I should have had it a lot sooner but I got there in the end and now I’m looking upwards. I want to get 100 goals and reach another landmark.”

Coral believe Wilson is almost certain to land a call-up and make him 4/6 to be called up, whilst Ings is a 4/1 shot and Murray is 10/1.

“Callum Wilson has been in great form for Bournemouth this season and many punters feel he is going to be rewarded with a call up into Gareth Southgate’s next squad for their friendly against USA at Wembley,” said Coral’s John Hill.
