Lee Carsley is set to be given the chance of earning the Birmingham City job on a full-time basis after they sacked Harry Redknapp.
Redknapp arrived at St Andrews with just three games left of last season, but managed to save them from the drop with two wins and he agreed a one-year deal to take charge this season.
But despite investing heavily in new players over the last few months, Birmingham have decided to axe the 70-year-old after six successive defeats, which sees them sitting second from bottom of the Championship.
They have quick installed highly-rated Carsley on a temporary basis, who was the club’s development coach.
Carsley has a growing reputation in the game and is believed to be high on the list of candidates for the job, with former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka believed to be keen on the role, as is Redknapp’s former assistant Steve Cotterill.
Indeed Cotterill is emerging as the Bookmakers favourite for the role ahead of Carsley.
“Harry Redknapp has been sacked at Birmingham City after a poor start in the Championship this term,” said BetVictor’s Head of Antepost Football Michael Triffitt.
“The Blues are in the bottom three and after spending money and been expected to be challenging at the summit, Harry has paid an early price for poor results. Lee Carsley, who is well respected on the coaching staff and in temporary coach, is priced at 5/1.”
