Champions League Tuesday Preview

Chelsea and Manchester United are both looking to seal top-sports in their groups in the final matches of the groups stages on Tuesday, whilst Celtic look to book their place in the Europa League.

Chelsea are already into the knockout phases as they host Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge, but they will seal their place at the summit if they win or if Roma fail to beat Qarabag at the Stadio Olimpico.

Conte insists that Chelsea are hoping to send Atletico into the Europa League.

“The game will be open because Atletico Madrid will try to win, but it will be the same for us. The only difference is that the final result for them is too important. We are already qualified,” he said.

“If they have to play in the Europa League, it can happen. But we must have great respect for the whole team, first of all for his coach.”

Man Utd only need a point at home to CSKA Moscow to book first place in Group A – indeed they could lose 6-0 and still win the group, so basically Jose Mourinho’s side have already done their job, and the Portuguese tactician is expected to make changes to his side with the Manchester derby this weekend on his mind.

“We have problems, we have injuries,” said Morinho.  “A couple of guys are playing every match and they also need a rest. More importantly, the other guys deserve an opportunity to play.”

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will be fielding a full strength side at home to Anderlecht as they looked to seal third spot in Group B – with Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich already through in the top-two spots.

But Rodgers was always targeting third, which will see them going into the Europa League.

“We want to win the game but of course you have to pay attention to a good opponent,” he said.

“But we haven’t overly thought about it, we have been busy with lots of other games but in this game we have to be tactically ready and prepared and we know if we do that then that can equate to a good result for ourselves.”
