Champions League Wednesday Preview

Manchester City, the favourites to win the Champions League this season, get their campaign underway as they host Lyon.

Pep Guardiola’s men are predicted to give him his first European title since 2011, and he is hopeful they can start in impressive fashion in Group F – but he admits they need to start living up to their favourite tags.

“We can talk about deserving credit or being favourites but what matters is on the pitch. It’s Tuesday and Wednesday games: show me the money, guys,” said Guardiola.

Manchester United are also in action as they travel to Young Boys in Switzerland.

Despite facing one of the minnows of the whole tournament, Jose Mourinho is not expecting an easy match.

“Young Boys is, of course, a team that comes from the fourth pot and the world will say it’s the team that didn’t have a chance to qualify but for some reason they qualified,”  he said.

“They went to Croatia and won in the play-offs [against Dinamo Zagreb], for some reason they beat Basel and they won the Swiss title.

“On top of that, they play on an artificial pitch, which is a big advantage for them and a big disadvantage for the other teams.”

Also in action on Wednesday are Juventus, Bayern Munich and current holders Real Madrid.

We run through every game including predictions from former England, Crystal Palace and Tottenham midfielder Andy Gray, our own Football Insider Graeme Bailey and BoyleSports’ Lawrence Lyons.
