Champions League Wednesday Preview

Liverpool are hoping to make it six out of six for the British contingent in the Champions League group stages as they face Hoffenheim in the second leg of their play-off.

The Reds host the German side at Anfield with a 2-1 lead from the first-leg, as they look to join Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Celtic – who won through on Tuesday – in the group stages.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is expecting a tough game.

“Now everybody knows the quality of Hoffenheim. A lot of people didn’t expect the quality that they saw. Now it’s half-time, you have to adjust things and change things,” said Klopp.

“The first game was good enough to get a result, the second game needs to be better.

“Anfield is a main factor. It’s a very special place. Nothing happens by itself, we have to perform. The atmosphere can help. I would be concerned if people thought it would be a weak side. We have a football crowd and they know about the quality and are ready to fight.”

Elsewhere, Azerbaijani champions Qarabag take a 1-0 lead to Copenhagen as they look to become the first team from their country to reach the group stages.

APOEL Nicosia hold a 2-0 advantage over Slavia Prague as they look to hold onto that heading to the Czech Republic.

CSKA Moscow have a 1-0 lead over Young Boys, whilst Sporting Lisbon must win in Romania against Steaua Bucharest after a goalless draw in Portugal.
