Chelsea hopeful of Roman investment

Chelsea are trying to push through a double deal for Roma duo Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri and they are hopeful of securing the pair.

The Blues are looking to bolster their options at left-back and up-front, and so signing both Dzeko and Palmieri would solve their squad issues.

Roma want a deal worth around £50million including add-ons, and the two clubs are understood to have reached an agreement.

23-year-old Palmieri, who has recently switched his allegiance from Brazil to Italy, is understood to be close to agreeing terms on his move – which will also allow Newcastle to land the loan signing of Kenedy.

However, personal terms for former Manchester City star Dzeko is proving slightly more difficult with The Blues hierarchy a bit wary of handing a long-term deal to a 31-year-old, but sources in Italy and close to Chelsea, believe that both players will be signing deals at Stamford Bridge in the coming days.

Bookmakers are pretty convinced that both players will be arriving – Coral list them both at 1/5.

“Chelsea are being linked with an assortment of players already this window but this is the shortest any player has been in the betting to join the Blues which hints deals for both could be close,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
