Chelsea ready to lead Lewandowski hunt

Chelsea have told Robert Lewandowski’s new management team that they will be in the market for the Bayern Munich striker, if he becomes available.

The 29-year-old has hired Pini Zahavi to oversee his future going forward, and the 74-year-old super agent is now set for talks with Bayern over his future.

Lewandowski has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and whilst the Spanish giants are still keen – others are now circling with Chelsea leading the chase from these shores.

A source close to Stamford Bridge confirmed to me they would be in the market for a world-class striker such as the Pole, but similar source close to Manchester United told me that was not the case for them and they were unlikely to be bidding for him this summer.

Lewandowski has three-years left on his current deal, and it remains to be seen if Bayern will deal as he remains one of their key players and he is on course for a third successive season of 30 goals for the Bavarian behemoth.

Bookmakers are not convinced that Lewandowski will leave this summer, and if he leaves – Real Madrid are firm favourites to capture him – rated at 6/4 with Coral – but with news of English interest, Chelsea and Man Utd have seen their odds slashed.

“Lewandowski has an excellent goalscoring record therefore if he does become available this summer, the top clubs around Europe will be queuing up to bag the striker,” said Coral’s John Hill.
