Chelsea remain keen on Lewandowski deal – if he is available

Chelsea remain firmly in the hunt for Robert Lewandowski, if he becomes available this summer.

The Blues have long been interested in landing the Polish superstar, who has more than hinted he would be looking for a move having hired super agent Pini Zahavi – who has a strong relationship with Chelsea.

Real Madrid have long been considered favourites for the 29-year-old, but it remains to be seen whether he is a target for the Spanish giants this summer.

Lewandowski still has a long-term contract with Bayern, who are showing little indication that they will let him leave.

“There’s no need to worry about Lewandowski’s relationship with Bayern,” said Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummeniggee said. “It’s a very good one. We know what we have in Robert Lewandowski, I’m very happy he’s still on a long-term contract. It doesn’t need to be given any thought. He’ll be a Bayern player next season.”

Chelsea have not hidden their interest, but they are wary of being dragged into a battle for a player who is not available, and although they are very keen – they won’t even talk about a deal unless Bayern confirm they will sanction his exit.

Bookmakers also believe that staying at Bayern is currently the most likely option for him with betting making them Evens to keep him, ahead of Real Madrid at 7/4 and Chelsea 4/1 – whose odds have been cut dramatically in recent days.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Robert Lewandowski has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe over the last few seasons and it’s still unclear where he’s going to be playing his football next season.

“Alvaro Morata has struggled to make an impact at Chelsea since his move last summer and The Blues could be looking for reinforcements in attack. They have been backed into 4/1 from 12/1 to sign Lewandowski this summer.

“The Polish forward is even-money to remain at Bayern Munich, while Real Madrid, who could also be seeking attacking assistance with Karim Benzema’s lack of goals this season, are 7/4 to bring him to the Bernabeu.”
