Cherries still hoping to pick up Terry

Bournemouth remain confident that former England captain John Terry will be heading to the South Coast.

The 36-year-old Chelsea legend is a free agent having left Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, confirming his desire to carry on playing.

He has offers from around the world, but sources close to him have confirmed he wants to stay in England and in the Premier League.

Birmingham and Aston Villa have been plummeted in the betting in recent weeks after both Harry Redknapp and Steve Bruce expressed an interest in landing him.

However, sources have told me that Bournemouth are still very much the favourites to land Terry – who they have been lining up for months.

Bournemouth targeted Terry along with his former England team-mate Jermain Defoe – who has already agreed a deal to move to the Vitality Stadium.

Terry, who wants to get involved in coaching too, also has offers from abroad with American and Chinese clubs keen – but I understand it is The Cherries who remain the most attractive option for him, with the offer of a two-year deal on the table.

However, Bournemouth have also told Terry that their offer is not open ended and will push for a decision before they return for pre-season training early next month.

We spoke to BetVictor’s Head of antepost Football Michael Triffitt about the Terry market.

“After opening at 4/1 , John Terry has been steadily supported into 4-6 after strong media reports linking him with the Blues,” he said.

“However, a number of other clubs have expressed interest and Terry himself will no doubt be monitoring the situation with interest whilst knowing he has undoubtedly a strong hand to play!”
