City confident of Jorginho and Mahrez deals

Manchester City are hoping to tie up deals for their top two targets Jorginho and Riyad Mahrez before the end of this month.

City, like many Premier League clubs, do not want to get caught out doing deals too late into the summer, with the new window in England due to end at the start of August.

City have even attempted to get deals done before the season ended, but after they do not come to fruition they are now working on their top two targets – with Pep Guardiola identifying central midfield and a forward as the two positions he wanted.

The two areas are little surprise given their failure to land both Alexis Sanchez and Fred in January. Both those players are now off the agenda with sources close to the club believing that Napoli star Jorginho and Leicester’s Mahrez are the two players firmly in their sights, and CIty are ready to splash around £100million to bag the duo.

Napoli have all but accepted that they are losing their Brazilian-born Italian international midfielder, and Jorginho is now only waiting on the two clubs to agree a fee.

“Finding an agreement with the English won’t be a problem…City are champions of England and among Europe’s top clubs. Now we must stay calm. If Napoli and City find a solution, we can talk about it, otherwise the player will be happy to stay at Napoli,” his agent Joao Santos told CalcioNapoli24..

“I hope to hear from their director, and maybe he’ll be in Naples in the next few days to talk about Jorginho.”

It is a similar situation with Mahrez, who was devastated when a deadline day move to City failed to materialise, they have remained keen and despite interest from Chelsea and Liverpool – it is believed the Algerian wants to play for Pep Guardiola.

Mahrez is set to cost a similar price in the region of £50million and City will soon make a big push to sort out deals for both players.

Bookmakers are convinced that City are close to both deals – with PaddyPower listing Jorginho odds on at 1/3 to be at City, whilst Mahrez is just 5/4.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “It seems as though the deal is all-but done for Jorginho to Man City, with Pep ready to open his bottomless pit of a wallet.

“Because that’s exactly what they need – another player that’s going to make every other team in the league look totally inadequate!”
