City’s Quad dream is over with United new cup favourites

Manchester City’s dreams of doing the Quadruple came to an abrupt end as their Wigan FA Cup curse struck again.

Wigan – now in League One – caused a huge shock in the 2003 FA Cup final do beat City, before beating them in the quarter-finals the following year and they have now dispatched of the Citizens again.

Will Grigg’s strike with just over ten minutes to go, saw Paul Cook’s side through as CIty – with ten-men, could not find a way through.

City, who were as low as 10/1 to win all four trophies this season and they were firm favourites to win the FA Cup, indeed Wigan were 22/1 just to win at the DW Stadium – but they did just that.

Wigan will now face Southampton in the last eight, whilst Manchester United are made 2/1 favourites to lift the trophy.

BetVictor’s Michael Triffitt commented: “Bookmakers up and down the country breathed a collective huge sign of relief and raised a toast to Will Grigg as the Wigan forward scored the winning goal to eliminate Manchester City from this season’s FA Cup.

“Quad bets are consigned to the bin and the League One favourites are 40/1 from 250/1 to go on and lift the trophy they won back in 2013. They now face Southampton who shorten to 12/1 from 33/1 whilst Manchester United are the new competition favourites at 2/1 followed closely by Tottenham at 9/4.”
