Clause for concern with Lukaku

Everton were poised to announce a new deal for Romelu Lukaku last week, but one clause is holding up him putting pen-to-paper at Goodison Park, our Football Insider Graeme Bailey understands.

And that clause that is causing the issues, is understood to be his release clause and the value of it.

Lukaku himself has raised question marks over whether he will sign a new deal or not, as he was asked over the weekend if a new deal was close and he simply said ‘no’.

Everton are willing to have a release clause our Football Insider Graeme Bailey – but the two sides differ massively on what the size of it should be.

Release clause

“I have been told that Everton won’t a release clause to be around £100million, but the player and his camp were looking for it to be at the £75 to £80milllion mark. But such is the money sloshing around at the higher end of football, Everton feel that would make Lukaku very attainable,” Bailey confirmed to us.

“This is a huge concern to Everton, they had done everything on the deal – but this last hurdle could be enough to stop everything in its tracks.”

Lukaku has two-years left on his current deal, but Everton want the 23-year-old – who is enjoying his best ever season in England with 19 goals already – tied down to a longer deal, and they wanted it done before the season ends.

We also spoke with SkyBet’s Dale Tempest about the current betting market surrounding the Belgian star.

“Despite the rumours of Lukaku shunning a new deal, he is still very short to be an Everton player next season,” Tempest told TheGamblingTimes.com.
