Conte’s odds on leaving slashed after Inter links

The odds on Antonio Conte leaving Chelsea at the end of the season have been slashed after fresh links with a move back to Italy.

Conte is not one of the highest paid managers in England and Chelsea are understood to be keen on speaking about new terms as they are set to lift the Premier League title.

However, Inter Milan’s new Chinese owners are believed to have made Conte their number one target having sacked  Stefano Pioli earlier this month.

Speaking ahead of clinching the title, which could be done as early as Friday, Conte said: “I have a contract for another two years with Chelsea but, for me and my players, the important thing is to be focused on the present.

“The most important thing is to win, not the money, but what the money does explain is your value; the real value of a player or a coach. If you show you deserve it, then you have earned [your] money.

“If, in the future, we decide to extend my contract, then we’ll decide this. But it’s not important, this. I have two more years of contract and, I repeat, it’s important to win and write the history of this club with my players. Money is important but it’s not everything.”

Ladbrokes still believe that Conte will be in charge of Chelsea next season and rate him at 1/8, but his odds on leaving have dropped from 8/1 down to 9/2.

Richard Marsh of Ladbrokes News said: “Conte is on the cusp of the Premier League title, but the odds suggest he may yet become a one-season wonder in West London.”
